Badlands Off Road Park Sand Hills Circuit
Indiana's premier technical wheeling playground
The Badlands Off Road Park near Attica sprawls across 600 acres of former strip mining operations that nature has reclaimed into Indiana’s premier technical wheeling playground. The Sand Hills Circuit tackles the park’s most challenging terrain — loose sand climbs that’ll bog down anything without momentum, followed by technical rock ledges left over from mining operations. The famous “Devil’s Playground” section combines deep sand with off-camber limestone shelves that have rolled more rigs than most want to admit.
This is expert-level territory requiring lockers, winch, and serious recovery gear — stock rigs need not apply. Park admission runs about $25 per vehicle with additional fees for camping, but you get access to maintained trails, bathhouses, and emergency recovery services. Open March through November, but avoid after heavy rains when the clay base turns into axle-deep gumbo. Expect to spend a full day here and bring plenty of water — the sand climbs will overheat anything. One of the few places in Indiana where you can actually test your rig’s limits without trespassing.
