Vermilion River Grove Dispersed Area
A handful of unofficial spots along old logging roads that parallel the Vermilion River, about three miles north of Kickapoo State Park. Local overlanders have been using these clearings for years — fire rings already in place, room for 2-3 rigs max at each spot. The river runs shallow here most of the year, good for water collection with proper filtration. Thick timber provides decent privacy and wind protection.
Access via Forest Road 9 off Highway 150, then follow the river downstream on rough dirt tracks. High-clearance recommended after heavy rains when the clay gets slick. No facilities, pack out everything. Popular with deer hunters in fall, so expect company during rifle season in November.
