Kickapoo Creek Dispersed Camping
A handful of undeveloped sites along Kickapoo Creek downstream from the main state park, accessible via old mining roads. Sites are gravel bars and small clearings under mature cottonwoods, with fire rings left by previous campers. The creek runs shallow most of the year but can flood after heavy rains. Popular with bass fishermen and serves as base camp for exploring the extensive network of reclaimed strip mine trails.
Access is via unmarked dirt roads off Kickapoo Park Road – high-clearance recommended after wet weather. No facilities, pack out all trash. The area can get busy during hunting seasons, and some roads may be gated or posted. Best accessed from the main park to scout conditions first.
