Gold Bridge to Tyaughton Lake FSR

Into the South Chilcotin from old gold country.

Moderate

Tyaughton Lake sits at the edge of South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park and getting there from Gold Bridge is half the adventure. The FSR climbs north out of town past the old Bralorne mining district, crosses Relay Creek, and works its way through lodgepole pine and subalpine meadow before dropping to the lake at 1,340 metres. The road is narrow in sections with some aggressive washboarding and one rocky creek crossing near Relay Creek that demands respect — it’s caught out overloaded rigs before. From the lake, you’re looking straight into wilderness horse country used by outfitters for decades, and the surrounding mountains feel like the rest of BC has been erased.

Rated moderate but the remoteness pushes it harder in practice — Gold Bridge is the last fuel stop and it’s a small one, so top off in Lillooet before making the run north. The FSR is generally manageable for a capable stock 4WD with high clearance, but the creek crossing and some rutted sections after rain want a lifted rig with all-terrain rubber. Cell service is nonexistent. The area is a base for backcountry horse trips and hiking into the South Chilcotin Park, so you’ll share the road with trailers hauling stock — drive accordingly. Season runs June to October; early season crossings run high and fast.
