Carpenter Lake — Gun Creek Bridge Viewpoint and FSR Junction
This spot on the Carpenter Lake Road marks the turn onto Gun Creek FSR, the primary access corridor into the South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park wilderness. From the bridge, you get a solid look at the turquoise-fed Gun Creek canyon cutting down toward the reservoir. It’s a natural stopping point to air down, check tire pressure, and confirm your route before the road gets rough and rocky heading north toward Spruce Lake and Tyaughton territory.
The junction itself is unsigned or minimally marked depending on the season — first-timers miss it. The road surface transitions from graded gravel to rough two-track past here. High clearance is recommended for anything beyond the first few kilometres. Cell service drops to nothing once you leave the pavement near Gold Bridge, so download your maps at Tyax Lodge before rolling.
