Downton Lake — FSR Access Viewpoint and Day Use
Downton Lake sits in a narrow valley above Carpenter Lake, fed by snowmelt and glacial runoff that keeps it an almost unreal shade of blue-green through summer. The FSR pullout here isn’t a formal campground — it’s a day use and viewpoint stop that gives you a clear look at the lake and surrounding peaks before you push deeper into Bridge River country. Used heavily by overlanders running Tyaughton Creek FSR, Gun Creek, or heading toward Spruce Lake.
Access is off Carpenter Lake Road via a short rough spur. High-clearance recommended but most stock trucks handle it dry. The area can see some traffic on summer weekends — Gold Bridge corridor is popular. No facilities at the viewpoint itself. Confirm road conditions locally at Tyax Lodge before committing.
