Worlds End State Park Sullivan County Forest Road Network
Remote ridgetop fire roads in PA's wild country
The fire roads threading through Worlds End State Park and adjacent state forest land cut through some of Pennsylvania’s most untamed country, where mountain laurel chokes the understory and wild trout still run cold in Loyalsock Creek. These interconnected dirt tracks, including the notorious Canyon Vista Road climb to the park’s most dramatic overlook, snake through ridgeline timber cuts and drop into remote hollows where black bears still outnumber hikers. The route network centers on the park’s fire tower road system, with challenging creek crossings at Double Run and technical rock garden climbs to High Knob.
Moderate difficulty with a few expert-level rocky climbs and seasonal mud holes that’ll test your diff locks. Stock 4WD with good ground clearance handles most sections, but recovery gear is smart for the wet-weather detours. Best tackled April through October when hunting seasons are closed and the roads aren’t snow-covered. No permits needed, but dispersed camping is limited to designated areas. These roads deliver serious solitude and some of the state’s best fall color viewing from ridgetop vistas.
