Loyalsock State Forest Sand Spring Dispersed Area
A handful of primitive sites scattered along Sand Spring Run where clear mountain water flows through moss-covered boulders and deep pools perfect for cooling off. The hemlock canopy provides solid shade, and fire rings show up sporadically where previous campers have established spots. Capacity runs maybe 4-6 vehicles total, and weekends during summer see steady use from hikers and locals. No facilities whatsoever — pack it all out.
Access via Sand Spring Road (FR 154) off Route 87, about 3 miles of decent gravel that any vehicle can handle. Road can get washboardy but nothing dramatic. Best late spring through early fall when the creek runs steady and the bugs aren’t murderous.
