Sesriem Campsite — Namib-Naukluft Park Gateway
Sesriem Campsite is the staging point for Sossusvlei and the red dunes of the Namib. It’s a gravel-and-thorn-tree camp run by Namibia Wildlife Resorts, with sites scattered under camel thorn trees, shared ablution blocks, and water on site. The big draw: campers inside the Sesriem gate can drive into the dunes ahead of the sunrise crowd, instead of waiting at the gate with everyone else. That’s the whole reason to sleep here.
Roads to Sesriem are gravel and washboard in places, but any carefully driven vehicle can make it. Fuel and basic supplies are available nearby, but top off before you head in. It’s hot by day and cold at night in winter, with strong wind possible. Book ahead in the dry season from May to October, because the camp fills. Confirm current rates, gate times, and rules with the operator before you roll in. Keep your camp food tight because the jackals and birds here are bold. Have a dirty day.
Sleep inside the gate, beat the Sossusvlei crowd.
