Rock River Territorial Campground — Dempster Highway
Rock River Territorial Campground is one of the handful of formal stops on the Dempster Highway, sitting near the Rock River bridge roughly halfway between Tombstone Territorial Park and Eagle Plains. The setting is open tundra with mountain views, the river nearby, and that particular Dempster silence that hits you when the last truck passes. Fire rings, outhouses, and basic amenities — nothing more, nothing less. Grayling fishing in the Rock River is solid. Traffic on the Dempster peaks in summer but this camp rarely fills the way Tombstone does.
The Dempster is all gravel and can be brutal on tires — run at least a full-size spare and ideally two. After rain, the road surface gets greasy and deep ruts form fast. Rock River sits near the Richardson Mountains, which means wind. Cell signal is zero this far out; Eagle Plains Hotel about 90 km north is your next fuel and resupply point.
Tundra camp deep in the Dempster corridor.
