Midway Lake Territorial Campground — Dempster Highway
Midway Lake Territorial Campground is a Yukon Government site on the Dempster Highway north of Eagle Plains, perched near the edge of treeline with wide open views across the boreal plateau. The lake itself is shallow and surrounded by tundra scrub — ptarmigan and caribou country. Facilities are minimal: pit toilets and fire rings. Sites accommodate truck-camper and trailer rigs without trouble. This is the last real designated camp before the Peel River ferry and the NWT border, making it a critical planning waypoint on the northbound run.
The Dempster is unpaved its entire length — gravel and clay that turns slick and treacherous in rain. Sharp rock on this stretch is notorious for punctures; carry two spares. Eagle Plains Hotel about 60 km south is your last fuel and food stop before Inuvik. No cell service. Mosquitoes are severe June through July. Best window is late July through early September when bugs drop and fall colours on the tundra are genuinely spectacular.
Last Yukon camp before the NWT border.
