Northwest Territories Highway 8 — Peel River East Bank Dispersed Camp
Just east of the Peel River ferry landing on NWT Highway 8, the gravel shoulder opens into a wide flat where rigs have been pulling off for years. No signage, no facilities, no crowd — just boreal scrub, big sky, and the sound of the Peel River moving past. You’re in the transition zone between the Mackenzie Delta lowlands and the Peel Plateau, and on a clear evening the light here is something else. Room for several rigs to spread out without being on top of each other.
The ferry runs on a schedule set by GNWT Infrastructure — check conditions before you commit to this bank. Mosquitoes are aggressive June through early August; a full mesh kit earns its weight. Road is paved from the ferry to Fort McPherson. Cell service is effectively nonexistent. Nearest fuel and supplies are in Fort McPherson, roughly 8 km west of the crossing.
Last flat ground before Fort McPherson.
