Eagle Plains Hotel and Campground — Dempster Highway Mile 232

Eagle Plains is the one stop you absolutely cannot skip on the Dempster. Sitting at roughly the midpoint of the highway near the Arctic Circle, this outpost has a hotel, restaurant, fuel (gas and diesel), and a small campground with basic sites. It’s not fancy — picnic tables, outhouses, and a gravel pad — but after 230 miles of Yukon wilderness, it feels like a city. Sites accommodate rigs of any size. The fuel price is always elevated; that’s the tax for being the only pump for 400 kilometers. Pay it without complaint.

The campground operates through the short summer season — typically late May through September. Cell service is essentially nonexistent. Water is available at the hotel. The road surface approaching Eagle Plains can be brutal washboard after rain — expect dust or mud depending on the season. Fuel tanks should be topped here regardless of gauge; the next stop is Fort McPherson, NWT, well into the next territory.
