Imintji Community Campground — Gibb River Road

Established Campground

Imintji sits roughly mid-Gibb at the Imintji Aboriginal Community, around 200 km east of Derby. It’s one of the few reliable fuel and camp stops between Derby and the Barnett River, making it tactically important on any full Gibb traverse. The campground is community-managed — fees go directly to the Ngarinyin people whose country this is. Expect basic facilities: pit toilets, a fire area, and flat grassed ground under large trees. Fuel is available (verify opening hours before you commit — it runs on community time). Cold drinks and limited supplies are sometimes available at the store. Keep numbers low, be respectful, and read any posted signs carefully.

Access is right off the main Gibb River Road — no additional 4WD required to reach the campsite itself, though the surrounding tracks demand a capable vehicle. Open dry season only (roughly May–October). The community does not always have consistent phone coverage; don’t rely on confirming ahead. Pay your fees on arrival, keep the noise down after dark.
