Galvans Gorge Creek Campground — Gibb River Road

Pull off the corrugated red dirt of the Gibb River Road and you’re camped within earshot of the creek that feeds Galvans Gorge. It’s a bare-bones setup — flat dirt pads under sparse paperbarks, room for a handful of rigs — but the payoff is immediate access to a stunning tiered waterfall and a deep green swimming hole that overlanders have been pulling over for decades. The Wandjina and Gwion Gwion rock art on the gorge walls makes this more than just a swim stop; it’s a genuine cultural site. Treat it accordingly.

The camp sits on Kimberley Station land. A small fee applies and is collected on-site. Access from the Gibb is straightforward — short rocky track passable by any 4WD. Dry season only (May–October); in the wet this creek runs hard and the track becomes impassable. No powered sites, no dump station, vault toilets on-site. Bring your own water.
