Deer Park Campground — Olympic National Park
Deer Park sits on a bald ridge above Hurricane Ridge with views stretching from the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Mount Baker on a clear day. The camp is small — 14 sites, pit toilets, no water — and the vibe is pure alpine. It’s a legit basecamp for Olympic high country runs and serves the Obstruction Point Road crowd who want something with more elevation and less of the Hurricane Ridge RV scene below. Fills fast on summer weekends without reservations.
The access road climbs 16 miles of narrow, winding dirt from Port Angeles — no trailers allowed, and the NPS means it. Passenger cars make it fine in dry conditions but the road stays closed until mid-summer most years. A high-clearance rig isn’t required but it’s welcome company up top. Zero cell signal. Carry all your water.
