Dungeness Forks Campground — Olympic Peninsula

Established Campground

Dungeness Forks is a small, shaded campground managed by the Olympic National Forest, sitting right where the Dungeness River and Gray Wolf River converge. It’s got a handful of sites, vault toilets, and a fire ring setup, with old-growth fir and cedar overhead keeping things cool even on summer afternoons. No drinking water — the rivers are right there but treat anything you pull from them. It’s genuinely quiet on weekdays and draws hikers and a handful of rig-based campers on weekends.

Access is via Forest Road 2880 off Palo Alto Road — passable for high-clearance 2WD but the road gets rough after rain and some sections narrow down on you. This puts you within striking distance of Hurricane Ridge Road, Obstruction Point, and the broader network of Olympic Peninsula Forest Service roads. Season typically runs May through October; call the Hood Canal Ranger District if you’re planning an early or late-season push.
