This restored Depression-era fire lookout sits atop Green Mountain’s 3,628-foot summit in the Olympic National Forest. The classic L-4 cab design provides 360-degree views across the Hood Canal, Olympic Mountains, and Cascade Range. Built by the CCC in 1933, it’s one of Washington’s best-preserved lookouts and is still occasionally staffed during fire season. The site includes interpretive displays about the lookout’s history and fire detection methods.
Access requires driving 8 miles on Forest Road 2610, a well-maintained gravel road suitable for most vehicles with adequate ground clearance. The final stretch gets steep but remains passable for 2WD. Snow blocks the road from roughly November through April. No services or water available — bring everything you need. Dispersed camping is permitted along the access road but not at the lookout itself.
