Obstruction Point Road — Hurricane Ridge High Country Trailhead
Eight miles of narrow, unpaved ridge road off Hurricane Ridge delivers you to Obstruction Point — one of the highest drive-to viewpoints on the Olympic Peninsula. No guardrails, no pullouts to speak of, exposed drop-offs on both sides, but the payoff is staggering: the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Bailey Range, and on clear days, the full spread of the Olympics laid out below you. Trailhead parking at the end feeds the Dungeness, Grand Ridge, and PJ Lake routes. No facilities at the terminus — bring everything you need.
Road is NPS-managed, high-clearance recommended though stock SUVs make it in dry conditions. Opens typically late July after snowmelt — call the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center before committing. Absolutely do not attempt in wet or icy conditions. Day use only at Obstruction Point itself; camping requires backcountry permits. A Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful card gets you in through the park gate.
6,150-ft ridge-end trailhead — no guardrails, all views.
