Mount Equinox Skyline Drive
This narrow, paved toll road winds 1,371 feet up Mount Equinox’s south face, ending at a summit with panoramic views across the Battenkill Valley, Green Mountains, and Adirondacks on clear days. The drive itself is an experience — steep grades, tight switchbacks, and no guardrails in sections. At the top you’ll find the old Carthusian monastery ruins and a small visitor pavilion.
Open seasonally from May through October, weather permitting. The toll booth operates during daylight hours only. Road can be busy on summer weekends and fall foliage season. No camping allowed, but it’s a worthy side trip when running trails in the Manchester area or heading to/from the Kelly Stand Road circuit.
