Green Mountain National Forest Somerset Reservoir Campground

Established Campground

This small USFS campground sits in mixed hardwood forest near Somerset Reservoir, offering 12 primitive sites perfect for overlanders tackling the reservoir access roads. Sites are well-spaced with fire rings and picnic tables, but no water or flush toilets—vault toilets and a hand pump well serve the area. The reservoir itself offers excellent fishing and paddling when water levels cooperate.

Access is via a decent gravel road off Route 9, but the final approach can get rough in mud season. Open typically May through October, though exact dates depend on snowpack. The campground fills on summer weekends, but midweek you’ll often have the place to yourself. Perfect staging area for exploring the network of old logging roads that spider out from the reservoir.
