Green Mountain National Forest Kelly Stand Road Dispersed Area
Multiple pullouts and clearings along the old Kelly Stand Road provide primitive camping in a narrow mountain valley between Stratton and Somerset. The route follows an historic logging road through dense mixed forest, with small brooks crossing at several points. Sites range from single-vehicle pullouts to larger clearings that can handle small groups. Stone foundations and old logging equipment hint at the area’s industrial past.
The dirt road is well-maintained but narrow with steep sections requiring attention in wet weather. Popular with leaf-peepers in fall and hunters in season. Some sites flood during spring snowmelt, and the entire road may be impassable in winter. No facilities, but several creek crossings provide water access.
