Turkey Run State Park Canyon Trail

Trailhead

This rugged trail system winds through deep sandstone canyons carved by Sugar Creek over thousands of years. The main canyon trail features narrow slot passages, rock scrambles, and multiple creek crossings via wooden bridges. Trail 3 (the famous canyon route) involves climbing over and under massive sandstone boulders and navigating tight passages — expect to get your boots wet and use your hands. The park gets packed on fall weekends when the maples turn.

Trailhead parking fills fast during peak season (September-October). The canyon can be dangerous after heavy rains due to flash flooding — check conditions at the nature center before heading out. Trail 3 is the most technical and requires good mobility; easier options like Trail 1 follow the rim.
