Yukon River Quest Trail Network
Historic gold rush mining roads near Dawson City
These interconnected mining roads spider out from the Klondike Highway toward the Yukon River, following creek beds that still yield gold dust to weekend prospectors. The network includes the old Hunker Creek Road to Dominion Creek, the Sulphur Creek mining access, and dozens of unmarked trails to abandoned claims and dredge operations. King Solomon Dome Road climbs to panoramic views over the entire Klondike goldfields, while Bonanza Creek Road follows the original discovery site where George Carmack triggered the great stampede of 1896.
Stock 4WD handles most routes in dry conditions, but wet weather turns the clay-based roads into slip-and-slide nightmares requiring chains or serious mud tires. Summer is best for access, though mosquitoes are legendary. No permits needed on most mining roads, but respect active claims and private property. Dawson City has full services for fuel and supplies. This is raw frontier country where you can still pan for gold and camp beside creeks that made men rich overnight.
