Spuzzum Creek FSR

Spuzzum Creek FSR branches east from Highway 1 near Yale, climbing aggressively through dense coastal forest toward the Cascade peaks. This active logging road starts as gravel but quickly deteriorates into loose rock, washouts, and steep switchbacks as it gains elevation above the Fraser River. The route follows Spuzzum Creek’s drainage, passing through old-growth stands and crossing multiple tributary streams before reaching high alpine meadows with views toward Mount Cheakamus and the Coquihalla peaks.

High-clearance 4WD is mandatory for the upper sections where rock ledges, water bars, and loose surfaces challenge even experienced drivers. Active logging means checking with BC Timber Sales for closures—weekdays can bring loaded logging trucks on narrow sections. Best accessed June through October when snow clears the high country. No permits required, but this is self-sufficient territory with no services once you leave the highway. The payoff is accessing pristine alpine terrain and experiencing the transition from Fraser Canyon’s semi-arid climate to true coastal mountain conditions in a single day’s drive.
