Skihist Provincial Park Campground
Skihist sits on a bench above the Thompson River canyon just north of Lytton, with big open sky, dry ponderosa country, and the roar of the river below. It’s a legitimate BC Parks established campground with designated sites, pit toilets, and fire rings — not glam, but solid. Around 60 sites in a semi-open layout with decent shade from scattered pines. This is classic southern Interior BC terrain: hot and dry in summer, brilliant for shoulder-season camping when higher-elevation camps are still snowed in.
Lytton is the jumping-off point for the Nahatlatch River FSR and access to the Fraser Canyon backcountry. Skihist gives you a real camp with toilets and fire infrastructure versus roadside dispersed options. The campground is managed by BC Parks and fills on summer long weekends — arrive mid-week or early if you want a site. Season typically runs May through October. Check BC Parks reservations ahead of peak summer.
