Botanie Lake Recreation Site — Botanie Valley Road
Botanie Lake Recreation Site is a small BC Forest Service site perched up in the Botanie Valley above Lytton, at the edge of subalpine terrain that transitions from dry bunchgrass to open meadow fast. The lake is cold and clear, surrounded by open timber. It’s a genuine backcountry camp — pit toilet, basic clearings for rigs, fire rings, no drinking water. The wildflower bloom in late June and July draws the few people who know about it; most of the time it’s quiet. This is solid staging for overlanders exploring the Botanie Mountain FSR or the Stein Divide approach from the west.
The Botanie Valley Road climbs hard out of Lytton — it’s a rocky, narrow FSR that demands high-clearance and ideally 4WD when wet. Snow can linger at the lake into late May or June. The road is not maintained through winter. No cell signal. Bring all your water or plan to filter from the lake.
