Soldier Meadows Road

Desert springs and forgotten homesteads

Moderate

Soldier Meadows Road cuts through 22 miles of high desert sagebrush from the Black Rock Desert playa to one of Nevada’s most isolated hot springs. This ancient Paiute travel route later served cavalry patrols and homesteaders, evidenced by crumbling stone foundations at the meadows themselves. The track crosses several dry washes and climbs over Soldier Creek Pass before dropping into the green oasis where natural hot pools steam against stark desert hills.

The route demands high-clearance 4WD for loose sand sections and rocky washes, though it’s not technically challenging. Plan for a full day with extra fuel, water, and recovery gear—you’re 40 miles from the nearest pavement. Best tackled April through October when flash flood risk drops. Dispersed camping is allowed, making this a prime spot for soaking under Nevada’s legendary dark skies.
