BLM Winnemucca District — High Rock Canyon Corridor Dispersed Camp

High Rock Canyon cuts through the northwestern Nevada desert like something carved by a giant — sheer basalt walls rising 200 feet off the canyon floor, with the old emigrant trail wagon ruts still visible in places. Dispersed camping is permitted throughout the BLM-managed canyon corridor, and most rigs pull off on flat benches along the creek bed or up on the rim. No developed facilities, no potable water, no trash service. This is genuine desert isolation — expect silence, stars, and the occasional pronghorn. Access is via High Rock Road north from Gerlach — expect rough washboard and sandy sections that tighten up in wet weather. A high-clearance 4WD is strongly recommended. The canyon road can flood and become impassable after significant rain events — the creek crossings are not trivial when water is running. Best season is late spring through fall. Cell service is nonexistent out here.
