Finlayson Lake Road — Campbell Highway to Finlayson Arm

Finlayson Lake sits in a broad glacially carved valley in the Pelly Mountains between Watson Lake and Ross River, and the short spur road off the Campbell Highway gives you direct truck access to the lakeshore — something genuinely rare on Yukon’s big wilderness lakes. The road drops through open boreal forest and scrub willow flats before hitting the gravel shore at the south arm of Finlayson. It’s a straightforward gravel track, but the lake itself sits at around 900 metres elevation and the surrounding ridgelines push to nearly 1,800 metres, giving you big open views of country that hasn’t changed much since the Campbell Highway punched through in the 1940s. The lake is a known arctic grayling fishery, and the shoreline camping is some of the most peaceful in the Yukon interior.
Easy to Moderate — most high-clearance vehicles handle this without drama in normal conditions. Stock 4WD trucks are fine. The spur is short enough that it’s often combined with a multi-day run of the full Robert Campbell Highway corridor. Best visited June through September. No permit needed, no fee. Nearest fuel and services are at the Faro turnoff or Watson Lake depending on your direction. Zero cell service; this is deep Yukon interior. Bring fishing gear — the grayling don’t disappoint.
