Chilcotin Plateau Gun Creek Road
Chilcotin cattle country and mountain views
This 80-kilometer route cuts across the heart of BC’s Chilcotin Plateau, connecting the mining town of Gold Bridge to Highway 1 near Lillooet through genuine ranching country. The road climbs steadily through alpine meadows and cattle ranges, passing active ranches and abandoned homesteads while offering massive views across the Coast Mountains. Gun Creek itself provides a reliable water source and camping spots, while the Bendor Range dominates the eastern horizon throughout the drive.
High clearance is essential and 4WD recommended during wet conditions when the clay sections become treacherous. The road remains open year-round but snow blocks higher elevations from November through May. Carry extra fuel as services are non-existent between Gold Bridge and Lillooet. This is classic BC backcountry — big sky country with working ranches, wild horses, and the kind of solitude that makes you understand why people choose this life over the city.
