Moderate to difficult terrain requires high-clearance 4WD with skid plates and recovery points — the creek crossings alone will test your departure angles and waterproofing. Best tackled April through October when water levels are manageable, though spring runoff can make crossings impassable. No permits needed, but fuel up in Waynesboro and carry water. Multiple dispersed camping spots along the ridge offer solitude and stellar valley views that make the technical approach worthwhile.
