George Washington National Forest Laurel Fork Dispersed Area
Hidden along Laurel Fork’s crystal-clear waters, this dispersed area offers secluded camping beneath towering hemlocks and rhododendron thickets. Sites line the stream for half a mile, each with natural fire rings and access to deep swimming holes. Capacity around 8-10 rigs maximum — fills quickly on summer weekends. Fires permitted in established rings only.
Reach via Forest Road 106 to rough FR 423 (4WD recommended for final 2 miles). The road crosses Laurel Fork twice at rocky fords that can be dicey after heavy rain. Prime season May through September when water levels are manageable. Completely off-grid — no cell service, pack everything out.
