Beaverdell to Conkle Lake FSR — Boundary Country Highland Loop

Boundary highlands, turquoise lake, zero hype.

Moderate

Beaverdell sits quiet on Highway 33 south of Kelowna, but the FSR network fanning east into the Boundary Country highlands is anything but. This loop climbs out of the West Kettle River Valley on loose shale and packed gravel, threading through old-growth ponderosa and second-growth pine before dropping into the Conkle Lake Provincial Park basin — a turquoise lake that sees almost nobody on weekdays. The Conkle Lake FSR section is the rough bit: narrow shelf road, blind corners, and a nasty water bar garden that’ll drag your exhaust if you’re not paying attention. Timber harvest traffic is active in the lower sections, so pull wide and wave.

A stock 4WD with decent clearance handles this comfortably in dry conditions, but the shale surface turns greasy after rain and adds a dimension. High-clearance 2WD can make it in dry summer conditions but you’re gambling. Best run July through October — the park campsite at Conkle Lake is a legitimate destination for families and solo overlanders alike. Permit required for the park campsite; dispersed camping is available on FSR sections outside the park boundary. Midpoint Creek crossing is minimal but present in early summer. Fuel in Beaverdell or Rock Creek before heading in.
