Adirondack Park Jessup River Wild Forest Road
Deep Adirondack wilderness logging roads
The Jessup River Wild Forest Road cuts deep into some of the Adirondack Park’s most remote territory, following old logging routes that once hauled timber from pristine wilderness. This rough forest road winds through dense mixed hardwood and conifer forest, crossing multiple creek beds and boggy sections before reaching the headwaters of the Jessup River. The road ends at a primitive camping area near Round Pond, where old-growth hemlocks tower above dark water reflecting the surrounding peaks.
This is a moderate trail requiring high-clearance 4WD, especially during spring mud season and after heavy rains when creek crossings can become challenging. The road surface alternates between rocky sections, deep sand, and muddy bog crossings that will test your traction aids. Best traveled from late June through October when water levels drop. No permits required, but dispersed camping follows Leave No Trace principles. Bring recovery gear and expect zero cell service once you’re five miles in.
