Summer Lake Hot Springs — Oregon Outback Soak and Overnight
Summer Lake Hot Springs sits at the edge of the Summer Lake basin, with the fault escarpment of Winter Rim rising hard to the west. The main soaking pool runs around 100–103°F fed by a natural geothermal source. There’s a small private campground on-site with basic sites — this is not a resort, it’s a roadside gem that overlanders running the Oregon Outback have been stopping at for decades. The setting is open high desert with big sky views toward the playa.
Located on Hwy 31 roughly 2 miles north of the Summer Lake store, access is paved all the way — it’s the soak you earn after running Winter Rim Road or the Paisley Wilderness edges. A small fee is charged for camping and soaking; day use is separate. Call ahead in shoulder seasons — hours and access can vary with ownership. No cell signal worth mentioning out here.
