Steens Mountain — Jackman Park Campground
Jackman Park sits on the Steens Mountain Loop Road, well above the sagebrush flats and into the aspen belt. It’s a small, flat BLM campground with fire rings, vault toilets, and room for rigs up to about 25–30 feet. The elevation keeps temps cool even in midsummer and the aspen canopy gives real shade — rare out here. It fills slower than Page Springs but don’t assume you’ll have it to yourself on summer weekends.
Access is via the Steens Mountain Loop Road out of Frenchglen — gravel the whole way, high-clearance strongly recommended, especially on the east-side descent. Road typically opens late June after snowmelt. No drinking water on site. Bring what you need. BLM stay limit applies at 14 days.
