Steens Mountain — Fish Lake Campground

Established Campground

Fish Lake sits in a glacially carved basin on the east face of Steens Mountain at roughly 7,400 feet. The BLM-managed campground has about 23 sites with vault toilets and potable water when the pump is running — confirm before you count on it. Sites have fire rings and picnic tables. It’s busier than Page Springs but quieter than most developed camps; hunters and anglers are your neighbors in August and September. Dispersed rigs on the Steens Loop Road pass right through, so expect some through-traffic dust.

Access is via the Steens Mountain Loop Road from Frenchglen — a graded gravel road that 2WD rigs can handle in dry conditions, but it’s narrow and exposed in places. Snow can close upper sections into late June. No cell service up here. Best season is July through October.
