Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center Spring

Water Source

This natural spring sits just behind the Starved Rock State Park visitor center, offering clean, cold water year-round from a developed spigot system. The spring has been a reliable water source since the park’s establishment, flowing even during dry summers when other sources run low. There’s parking for larger rigs near the visitor center, and the spring is easily accessible on foot.

The water is potable but many overlanders still filter it out of habit. Spring flow is strongest in spring and early summer, slower but steady through fall and winter. Located right off IL Route 178, making it a convenient stop for anyone running the Rock Island Trail or exploring the Illinois River bluffs area.

Reliable spring water behind the visitor center.
