Shawnee Hills Recreation Area Wine Trail Trailhead
This well-marked trailhead sits at the junction of scenic byways connecting Illinois’s wine country to Shawnee National Forest backcountry. Gravel parking area accommodates 15-20 vehicles including truck-trailer combos. Trail maps and interpretive signs cover both the wine route and connecting forest service roads. Popular staging area for dual-sport riders and overlanders heading into the national forest.
Access via paved IL Route 127, then 0.3 miles on maintained gravel. Open year-round but muddy in spring thaw. No facilities — bring water. Cell service spotty but present on ridges.
