Giant City State Park Campground
Giant City offers 85 sites split between electric hookups and primitive camping, nestled among towering sandstone bluffs. The campground stays busy on weekends April through October, but weekday sites are usually available. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, with modern restrooms and showers centrally located. The park’s stone lodge and visitor center provide good intel on local trail conditions.
Located 12 miles south of Carbondale via Giant City Road. The campground road is paved all the way in, making it accessible to any rig. Reserve ahead for weekends and holidays – this place books solid during fall colors. Good jumping-off point for exploring the broader Shawnee backcountry.
