Pike-San Isabel National Forest — Weston Pass Road South Dispersed Camp

The south end of Weston Pass Road (CR 5 out of Fairplay) opens up a handful of pull-off dispersed sites scattered through the wide, grassy floor of South Park as the road climbs toward the pass. You’re looking at high-altitude sagebrush and meadow camping — no trees to block the Mosquito Range skyline, a lot of stars, and wind that doesn’t care who you are. These spots get used by hunters in September and the occasional overland crew connecting to the Arkansas River Valley. No developed anything here — no toilets, no water, no signage. Pack it in, pack it out.

Weston Pass Road is a maintained gravel and dirt two-track, passable by most high-clearance rigs when dry. The south approach is the more gradual side. Snow can linger into June and return by October. Fire restrictions during drought are common — check with the Fairplay office of Pike-San Isabel before you light anything. Stay within 300 feet of the road centerline and at least 100 feet from any water source per USFS rules.
