The well-maintained dirt road follows the original toll road grade, passing the ruins of Weston townsite where travelers once paid their fees before tackling the switchbacks. The summit offers commanding views across South Park to the Collegiate Peaks, with remnants of the old telephone line still visible along the route.
This is an easy to moderate high-clearance route suitable for most SUVs and trucks, though snow can linger well into June at the pass. The road stays good condition thanks to county maintenance on both sides. No permits required for this public road.
