Pike-San Isabel National Forest — Weston Pass Road North Dispersed Camp

Coming off the north side of Weston Pass toward US-285, the road drops through a tighter drainage with aspen groves and spruce stands that offer real tree cover — a different feel from the exposed meadows on the south approach. Dispersed sites here are tucked into the timber with a creek nearby, making this the shadier, quieter option on the Weston Pass corridor. The drainage keeps things cooler and provides natural wind protection, which matters at elevation. Used by hunters and Colorado Trail through-hikers resupplying, but low traffic overall compared to better-known Front Range dispersed areas.

The north approach from US-285 near the town of Antero Junction is the shorter run to the summit. Road surface transitions from gravel to rougher dirt as you gain elevation. Early season snowmelt can make the lower reaches muddy. No developed facilities. Water from the creek is available but treat it before drinking. Check Pike-San Isabel fire restrictions before arrival — this country goes to Stage 2 fast in drought years.
