Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest — Horseshoe Cove Campground
Horseshoe Cove sits on the east shore of Baker Lake, accessed via Baker Lake Road off SR-20. It’s a developed USFS campground with around 34 sites, vault toilets, fire rings, and direct lake access — a rare combination up here. The lake is big and cold and gorgeous, with the Baker massif rising to the west. It draws a mix of boaters and car campers on summer weekends, but shoulder-season visits (late September especially) are dramatically quieter and the fall colors in the surrounding hemlock and maple are worth the trip alone.
Baker Lake Road is paved most of the way, making this accessible to rigs of any size. It’s a solid staging point for Heliotrope Ridge approaches from the south or for exploring the Forest Service roads on the east side of Baker. Reserve ahead in July and August — this one fills up. NW Forest Pass or America the Beautiful covers the day use fee.
Baker Lake basecamp — big water, big mountain.
