Glacier Public Service Center — Mount Baker Highway
Sitting right on State Route 542 in the small community of Glacier, this USFS ranger station is the real-deal staging point for everything in the Mount Baker corridor. Pick up your NW Forest Pass intel, check on road conditions for FR 39 (Heliotrope Ridge Road), grab current fire and permit info, and talk to an actual ranger who knows what the roads look like right now. There’s a small parking area out front. The building doubles as a community anchor — there’s a coffee shop and a small store nearby in Glacier that can top off your supplies.
If you’re running the Heliotrope Ridge Mining Road or poking up any of the FR roads off SR-542, stopping here first saves you a wasted drive if conditions are bad. Season-dependent — call ahead in shoulder seasons. Cell signal exists in Glacier but fades fast once you head up any of the forest roads toward the mountain.
