Monongahela National Forest Red Creek Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

Red Creek cuts through this high mountain valley creating perfect dispersed camping along Forest Road 19. Sites line both sides of the creek with established fire rings and level ground for 8-10 rigs. Crystal clear mountain water runs year-round, excellent for filtering. Popular with fly fishermen targeting native brook trout and photographers chasing autumn colors.

Forest Road 19 is maintained gravel but narrow with tight turns — not recommended for rigs over 25 feet. Best access from Laneville. Prime time is September-October for colors, but sites fill fast on weekends. Bears active in area, follow food storage protocols.
