Spruce Knob Lake Dispersed Camping Area

Dispersed Camping

Several primitive sites scattered around Spruce Knob Lake at 3,800 feet elevation offer cooler temperatures and excellent stargazing. Sites are in mixed hardwood forest with level spots for tents and smaller RVs up to about 25 feet. Fire rings at established spots, but firewood collection may be restricted depending on forest health orders. Popular with astronomers for dark skies away from light pollution.

Access via Forest Road 112 — gravel road that can get rough after storms. Snow closes the area typically November through April. No water or facilities on site, though the lake is available for non-potable uses. Vault toilet at nearby Spruce Knob Recreation Area about 2 miles away.
