Marienfluss Valley — Red Drum Sand Road Southern Flats Dispersed Camp
This is raw Kaokoland at its most unfiltered. The southern Marienfluss flats offer wide, flat sandy ground between the dune corridor and the rocky escarpment edge — no facilities, no signage, no neighbours. You pick your line off the track, face the rig into the wind, and call it home. The Kunene River is within striking distance to the north; elephant and oryx move through this corridor regularly, especially near the seasonal drainage channels. Nights here are ink-black and cold in winter months.
Access is via the red sand two-track connecting Serra Cafema and the Marienfluss conservancy tracks — deep sand sections demand aired-down tyres and confident sand driving. No water on site; carry a minimum of four days’ supply. The Marienfluss Conservancy controls access; a community conservation fee applies and is paid at Puros or through a registered operator. Dry season (May–October) is the only realistic window for most rigs.
