This bare-bones contact station sits at the end of a 32-mile dirt road, serving as the trailhead for Horseshoe Canyon’s world-class rock art. The Great Gallery hike is 6.5 miles roundtrip with a 750-foot descent into the canyon. Rangers are occasionally present during peak season, and there’s basic pit toilet facilities but no water or services.
The access road is rough dirt requiring high-clearance vehicles, washboarded and sandy in sections. Spring and fall are ideal — summer heat makes the hike brutal, and winter can bring snow that closes the road. No camping allowed at the station itself, but BLM dispersed camping is available along the access road.
